KZN Game Reserve to Feed Hippos to People |

| The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Game Reserve has decided to use meat from culled hippos to feed residents of a poor, rural Mbangweni community that lies adjacent to the reserve. The arrangement came after the South African government reneged on a land deal to allow residents of the village to grow crops on a small portion the reserve. | The KZN Nature Conservation
Board agreed to provide the community with a hippo per month for five months.
This decision has led to an outcry from some environmentalists. The
board argues that "problem hippos" would have to be killed anyway
