Rwanda Hippos Die in Drought

A severe drought beginning in April has led to the death of 10 hippos in the Senene Value in northeastern Rwanda.  Approximately 4,000 hippos live in the country's waterways.  At least another 100 hippos are struggling for survival.   Several governmenta agencies and community groups have taken action to help the animals.  The army has started watering the ground to soften the mud and release trapped animals so they can move to the nearby Ihema Lake.
