Floods Move Hippos to New Parts of Namibia

This year's flooding in the Caprivi has significantly altered Namibia's landscape displacing humans as well as wildlife. Lake Liambezi, which has not held water in the past 20 years is full again and serving as a new home to crocodiles as well as a herd of hippos.

Unfortunately, the presence of the animals is making agriculture along the edges of the lake difficult. The hippos are believed to have walked from the Mamili Park area to the lake. The water entered the lake via Muyako and from the south through the Chobe River.
