Hippo Poaching in Togo Continues

An eyewitness report suggests that hippo poaching along the border of Togo and Benin continues (see Poacher in Togo Uses Dynamite to Kill 50+ Hippos). Initial reports suggest that the same individual suspected of killing more than 50 hippos in September 2002 may have been responsible for the death of 12 more hippos in the Mono River region.

National Forestry Commission, Togo personnel together with guards from a local conservation organization (AVPN) arrested the suspected poacher and confiscated the explosive devices used to kill the animals.
