|Many birds are very dependent on hippos. Aquatic birds such as herons, egrets, and comorants will sit on the backs of hippos to catch fish. Other birds, such as oxpeckers, eat parasites like ticks and leeches that attach themselves to the sides of the hippos. The hippos benefit too. As the oxpeckers feed on parasites, they also clean out wounds and trim away dead or infected skin from the hippos.||
