Neuse River & Pamlico Sound |
Latest resultsHypoxia typically forms in the bottom waters when the estuary is stratified. This hypoxia in the bottom waters impacts the distribution of most of the fish found in the estuary and can result in declines in habitat quality for demersal fishes. Therefore, we have been tracking the extent to which the bottom waters in the Neuse and Pamlico experience hypoxic conditions. Estuary condition maps:
22 & 23 October 2001 - Neuse River bottom water conditions.
Year to Year CPUE and size comparisons: We did see some differences in 2000 versus the previous 3 years. The CPUE was much lower in the river than in the previous years and blue crabs were smaller.
